Spring 1992 - A college course on turn-of-the-century Europe inspires my obsession with the First World War, and the generation thrown into this crucible of the modern era.
July 2007 - During a writing workshop, a character leaps into my head: a World War I infantry officer walking the streets of modern Manhattan. He has dark blond hair and plays the piano.
April 2009 - The last major puzzle piece drops into place, and I begin the first draft of OVERSEAS.
May 2009 - After six weeks of obsessive writing, late nights, and a newfound coffee addiction, I complete the first draft. Begin editing.
September 2009 - Accepted offer of representation from literary agent Alexandra Machinist, now of Janklow & Nesbit.
February 2010 - U.S. hardcover rights to OVERSEAS (originally OVERSEA) sold to G.P. Putnam's Sons, with publication projected for late spring 2011. The same day, Droemer Knaur pre-empts German rights. Publisher's Weekly carries the news on its Deals page.
February 2010 - Dutch rights to OVERSEAS sold in pre-empt to Sijthoff in the Netherlands.
March 2010 - EKSMO acquires Russian rights to OVERSEAS. Spanish rights to OVERSEAS sold to Plaza/Random House Mondadori in three-way auction.
December 2011 - Italian rights sold to Nord.
January 2012 - After Penguin sales force greets OVERSEAS with enthusiasm, a new "special effects" cover makes its debut.
May 2012 - PUBLICATION
